Thanks for visiting! John has served as your Floyd County Commissioner since 2017 and is running for re-election this year. John lives in the rural area of the county and understand the issues and concerns important to rural area residents. Being a commissioner is a full time responsibility. John dedicates many hours attending weekly meetings, meets with county residents, continues to work diligently to make Floyd County a better place to live.
John is retired and he understands being a full time commissioner is more than just attending the bi-weekly Commissioner’s meetings. He attends 15+ meetings a month and as well as holds leadership roles as your commissioner.
John is always available and easily accessible. Often times, someone will approach him at the Jay C store while shopping or at church to discuss an issue or advise him about a pothole that needs to be fixed.
John championed obtaining a $2.1M grant to bring high quality, affordable broadband access to un-served and under served homes and businesses in Floyd County. Broadband is vital to economic development, the health of our citizens and our quality of life.
John also serves on the Redevelopment Commission supporting Novaparke; our new 60 acre Innovation and Technology Park which will bring 400 STEM jobs to our county enabling us to retain and acquire talent which is key to Floyd County’s economic development.
A railroad overpass will be built to eliminate three dangerous railroad crossings. Plans to install stop lights at Oakes Road and Tunnel Hill are also part of this project. Since 2017, 100 miles of roads have been paved with plans to pave 30 more miles in 2020. White stripes are being painted on road edges for better night and weather visibility and where INDOT standards allow, yellow center lines will be painted to help ensure safety of all those traveling our roads.
We are working with local leaders in Greenville and Georgetown to reach an inter-local agreement that during a paving project, the entire road is paved from the town limits to the State Road.
To leverage every dollar the commissioners spend for paving and bridges, we apply for matching grants from Office of Community Affairs and KIPDA. As per state statute, the Commissioners submit a balanced budget each year.
In addition to his other duties, John serves on the EMS Advisory Board and has championed to bring a third ambulance for Greenville and Galena area and to serve Greenville Elementary School.
John retired from the telecommunications industry after 30 years of service, but as your commissioner he works full time to make Floyd County a better place to live and raise your family. As a former project manger and now as your full time commissioner, he continues to look out for the residents of Floyd County.
Working as a team, we have accomplished a great deal in 3+ years. There is no “I” in TEAM but there is an “I” in CHAMPION and John has stepped up as your CHAMPION, your full time Commissioner who is committed to accomplish much more in the next four years for our county.
